Ocean Acidification

The acidification of the ocean occurs as a consequence of the absorption of atmospheric carbon (CO2) in the ocean. This can cause the death of marine organisms and, eventually, irreversible damage to the marine ecosystem.

The goal of the Our Ocean Conference is to discuss and make progress in the creation of an International web of monitoring on this phenomenon, and to adopt plans and measures to reduce ocean acidification. As such, measures must be directed towards mitigation plans as well as on the ecological and societal impacts that may arise as a result of ocean acidification.
